Diego Gómez Tibocha is a Colombian filmmaker and photographer born in Bogotá and based in Berlin. His relationship with light began at sixteen in a darkroom, watching black-and-white prints emerge from chemical baths—an early experience with analog photography that instilled a lifelong dedication to craft and visual storytelling.

He formally trained in film production across Latin America and Europe, studying at Fundación Lumière and Black Maria in Bogotá, Metrópolis C.E. in Madrid, and specializing in cinematography at Berlin’s FilmArche e.V. Over more than two decades, Diego’s work has spanned continents, mediums, and environments. While based in Madrid, he produced and directed two feature-length documentaries: Alerta Bogotá, a cultural portrait of Colombia’s capital, and Jaibaná, shot deep in the Panamanian jungle with Indigenous communities, which premiered at the Havana Film Festival.

His fascination with light also extends underwater. Working as a commercial and underwater cinematographer in Mallorca, he shot educational films and campaigns focused on marine reserve conservation—using the camera as a tool to foster environmental awareness.

In 2023, Diego established Velvet Visual, a Berlin-based creative studio spanning film, photography, and design, creating compelling work for brands and artists alike. Velvet Visual notably produced two documentary films alongside the catalogue photography and design for the exhibition With Legs Wide Open – A Whore’s Ride Through History, curated by the Objects of Desire Collective and presented at Berlin’s Schwules Museum (2025) and the Bundeskunsthalle in Bonn (2026).

Fluent in Spanish, English, and German, Diego brings a global perspective and deep technical experience to every project.
